  1. Taken in the long run, the medium is the message. 
  2. So that when, by group action, a society evolves a 
  3. new medium like print or photo or radio, it has 
  4. earned the right to express a new message. And 
  5. when we tell the young that this new message is a 
  6. threat to the old message or medium, we are 
  7. telling them that all we are striving to do in our 
  8. united social and technical lives is destructive of 
  9. all that they hold dear. The young can only 
  10. conclude that we are not serious. And this is the 
  11. meaning of their decline of attention. In Russia, 
  12. where print is still a novelty, and one extremely 
  13. needful to the achievement of the producer and 
  14. consumer patterns that we achieved centuries
